What We Do

The mission statement of the Sisters of Notre Dame calls us to "foster the fullness of life, especially for people who are poor, sick and aged."  Following our mission and answering the appeal of the Diocese of Covington in 1960 to establish a center of healthcare for sick and elderly persons, the Sisters of Notre Dame founded St. Charles Care Center in Ft. Wright, KY, now known as St. Charles Community.

Three years later, the Diocese requested that the Sisters of Notre Dame expand our healthcare ministry and establish a hospital in eastern Kentucky.  St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, KY was founded in 1963 and has since grown into the largest rural hospital in northeastern Kentucky, now known as St. Claire HealthCare.
