Volunteers at St. Claire Regional Medical Center (SCR) give back and pay it forward in so many ways. In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2016, volunteers contributed donations totaling $63,000 to SCR.

In December 2015, volunteers gave $20,000 to the St. Claire Foundation Greatest Need Fund. Several months later, the volunteer program donated $40,000 for the installation of a sculpture on the medical center campus. Volunteers also contributed $2,000 to the St. Claire Auxiliary Scholarship fund endowment and awarded a $1,000 Auxiliary scholarship to a future Morehead State University student, Sara Crouch. Sara, an Owingsville, KY resident, was valedictorian of her class and volunteered for more than 300 hours at SCR. Sara will begin her college career at Morehead State University in fall 2016, majoring in pre-med.

There are 72 individuals in the SCR volunteer program. Most volunteer one to two days each week for four or more hours. According to Regina Thompson, Director of Volunteer Services at SCR, volunteers raise money through the St. Claire Gift Shop, special vendor sales, and events, such as their New York Red Eye Trip, the Morehead Arts and Eats, and a used book sale.

"It was a very good year," Ms. Thompson said, "and I hope we do as well this coming year."

Ms. Thompson and Roberta Gilbert, the St. Claire Gift Shop Coordinator, coordinate the events and sales. Volunteers help with promotion, event set-up and take-down, and connecting with guests at the events.

"It is an all-out team effort," Ms. Thompson said. "Many long nights and early mornings. We are blessed with great volunteers, employees and community members, who support our efforts. We are beyond fortunate to have the support and prayers of the Sisters of Notre Dame."
