Sister Mary Marjorie Gasdorf, SND (1927-2018)

Sister Mary Marjorie was born Rose Ann Gasdorf on December 4, 1927, in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky. She described her childhood as very happy, made so by her very loving parents, George and Margaret Laseke Gasdorf.

Rose Ann attended St. Thomas Grade School, Ft. Thomas, Kentucky, and graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1945. It was at Notre Dame Academy where Rose Ann felt a strong spirit and unity with the Sisters of Notre Dame who taught her.  She also felt a passion for nursing and graduated from Good Samaritan Nursing School in July 1948.  Her nursing career began in the nursery of St. Joseph Infant Home, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Rose Ann continued to sense a strong desire for religious life. Her desire finally became a reality when she entered the Sisters of Notre Dame on December 4, 1949, her twenty-second birthday.  After Sister Mary Marjorie made her vows, she continued her nursing ministry at Lynch Hospital in Eastern Kentucky, St. Charles Care Center in Covington, Kentucky, and St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky. Sister Mary Marjorie later served as nurse and cook at Northern Kentucky parishes, assisted in Lourdes Hall Care Center at the Covington Provincial Center, and prayed daily in the Apostolate of Prayer.

After over forty years of compassionate ministry as a nurse, Sister Mary Marjorie went home to God very peacefully on Thursday, January 4, 2018, surrounded by her loving sisters.

Sister Mary Marjorie is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, George and Lincoln Gasdorf. Sister leaves behind her niece, Lisa Gonzalez, of Hebron, Kentucky, and her nephew, Gregory Gasdorf, of Orlando, Florida.

Sister Marjorie told me when I visited in November that she wanted to get a "perm" because she would be going to heaven soon. I'm happy that she is now where she can be with Jesus. Sister graduated with my mother from SND and she sends her condolences also.
