Kathy and Larry Kramer

Growing up a Mt. Adams girl from the "wrong side of the river," as she phrased it, Kathy Kramer had to be introduced to Kentucky by her Covington Catholic graduate husband, Larry. Kathy took to the correct side of the river like a Buckeye fallen from a tree.

In the early 2000’s Kathy joined Mother of God parish in Covington, KY, and quickly met and befriended Sr. Margene Koester, SND. Kathy read in the bulletin about an upcoming women’s retreat hosted by the Sisters of Notre Dame, which set everything in motion for her. That first retreat felt like “coming home”…which led to making the women’s retreat each year…which led to Associate Formation in 2009 with Sr. Mary Lea Paolucci as her companion.

Kathy made her Covenant as an Associate of Notre Dame in 2010. After becoming an Associate she was asked to join the Associate Planning Team, as well as the Retreat Planning Team. She still does both and is now the Co-Director of the Retreat Team, setting things in motion for other retreat attendees.

In August 2015 Kathy started the first of three trips to St. Louis for the Collaborative Leadership Development Program (CLDP), along with monthly small group meetings. She attended this with 50 sisters and associates from around the world. Through their monthly meetings and her ongoing practicum project, she learned about national and worldwide trends among women religious and their associates. She graduated from the program in November 2016.

All along Kathy and Larry have been engaged in many activities and attended many worship services at the Covington Province. In fact, Larry has attended the Fourth of July Festival since his childhood. In adulthood, Larry learned the festival was perfect for his organizational skills. Larry and Kathy started out helping wherever needed at the festival and eventually ran the Lucky Draw Booth. While helping to prepare for the 2016 festival, Larry noticed a theme among various donations. After sorting the items, calculating potential prize packages, and brainstorming booth ideas, Larry made a suggestion to the festival committee. From that, Larry will run the first ever Major League Baseball-themed booth at the 2017 festival. Kathy will continue overseeing the Lucky Draw.

Thinking about her involvement with the Sisters of Notre Dame, Kathy said, “Through Larry’s love and support we have both been able to partner with the Sisters to help advance their mission.”

To that, we say, “Thank you.”

Kathy, your organizational skills are wonderful. You have the ability to focus on a topic and find what needs to be clarified. How great you are contributing as a couple!

Kathy, we are so blessed with your presence among us. Your work with the Women's Retreats is especially appreciated by me, but all your other endeavors in the interests of the SNDs and Associates and the broader Church are also held in admiration by me. Thank God for Kathy!!!
