Mr. Walt Witt, SND Associate and Longtime Partner in Mission

The Sisters of Notre Dame are missioned to proclaim God’s goodness and provident care, but we do not do it alone! Thousands of individuals and organizations dedicate their prayers, their time, and various resources to share in carrying out Jesus’ mission near and far. Each month we pass the mic to one or more of our partners and shine the spotlight on their relationship with the Sisters of Notre Dame.

November 2014 Partner Spotlight: Walt Witt (Ft. Wright, KY)

My first encounter with the good Sisters began in 1941 when I entered the first grade at Sacred Heart School in Bellevue, KY. My first teacher was Sr. Mary Camillus Kampschmidt, SND.

When my wife Martha and I had children, they went to St. Agnes School in Fort Wright, KY. In 1968, our oldest daughter was in the 2nd grade and her teacher was Sister Mary Paulita Duvelius, SND. Sister asked me to run the St. Agnes grocery booth at the 4th of July Festival. That was my first year, and my family and I have worked the Festival every year since! There is no longer a grocery booth, but my family and friends now work the major raffle.

I will never forget the year we had a terrific thunderstorm during the Festival. The wind blew the grocery booth over, with the baskets and groceries tumbling down the hill. Sister Mary Lynette Shelton tried in vain to hold the booth up and ended up injuring herself. I told her to take care of herself and let the groceries go!

One of my favorite parts of working with the Sisters is their joy and enthusiasm in the crowd at the 4th of July Festival, no matter the weather. The public knows the good works they do in education, hospitals, and many other ministries. I do a small part to help the Sisters continue their work.
