The Sisters of Notre Dame are missioned to proclaim God’s goodness and provident care, but we do not do it alone! Hundreds of individuals and organizations dedicate their prayers, their time, and various resources to share in carrying out Jesus’ mission near and far. Each month we pass the mic to one or more of our partners and shine the spotlight on their relationship with the Sisters of Notre Dame.

December 2016 Partner Spotlight: Joanne Kenner

I have been an Associate with the Sisters of Notre Dame since 2013.  I was familiar with the Sisters for many years, but was specifically introduced to the Notre Dame Associates through my dear friend, Leah Britt.  I was kind of experiencing "empty nest syndrome" and was interested in finding a service organization where I could volunteer.

I immediately felt welcomed by the Sisters.  I loved spending time with them and learning about ALL of the ways they serve God's people. Sr. M. Margaret Agnes Hemmerle was my Associate mentor.  She showed me firsthand the SND mission of proclaiming God's goodness and provident care-of seeing the face of Jesus in all. Sister Margaret Agnes and I have become the best of friends and have shared so much together.  She has changed my life forever by showing me how to live life to the fullest, how to appreciate all of the blessings God places before us, and how to always be ready to say YES.

The list is pretty long of activities Sister Margaret Agnes and I have participated in together. We have done faith sharing, attended SND lectures, served breakfast in Lourdes Hall, worked together at the 4th of July Festival, organized Christmas craft activities in Lourdes Hall, gardened at the Newport Convent, participated in the community service project, organized the Pilgrimage Church Walk, and visited the SND mission in Uganda.

I still find it hard to believe that I had the opportunity to visit the mission in Uganda.  It was an opportunity of a lifetime to see everything that the Sisters have accomplished. To meet the people of Uganda and live among them for a few weeks taught me so much about myself and my faith.  It was an experience that will live with me forever.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I am proud and honored to be a Notre Dame Associate.  Thank you, Sisters, for all that you do to make our world a better place by living the Gospel and promoting our Catholic faith everyday.  May God continue to bless you always.
