Sister Mary Ellen Strunk receives literacy award

Congratulations to Sr. Mary Ellen Strunk, who received the 2017 Mary Ann Mongan Literacy Award from the Kenton County Public Library!

Sister Mary Ellen Strunk is a graduate of Notre Dame Academy, Thomas More College and Xavier University with a degree in Elementary Education and Educational Administration. In her 45 years of teaching and administration--with more than ten years teaching at Prince of Peace School--she has been instrumental in building up the Prince of Peace Library and teaching weekly library classes to the students.

Sister Mary Ellen has attended many professional workshops and conferences to continue to upgrade her knowledge and background in literacy. She is certified in the Orton-Gillingham method, has attended the Cincinnati Catholic Library Conference, the Scholastic Reading Summit and has presented a Writing Workshop to the Prince of Peace Faculty in the summer of 2014.

In addition to her weekly library classes, Sister Mary Ellen works every day with the Title I reading program in Kindergarten through Grade 3, assisting students who need extra skills to succeed in the classroom. Sister Mary Ellen wears many hats in that she also teaches Spanish and art to every class. Her knowledge, experience, and talents contribute to making her a wonderful candidate for the Mary Ann Mongan Literacy Award!
