Webale Noeli! The Christmas celebration in Buseesa, Uganda was a joyful, song-filled occasion. Sister Anita Marie Stacy sent the photos below from Christmas Mass at the local parish in Buseesa.

The Uganda-SND Connection:

  • In the early 1990s, the local bishop for rural Buseesa, Uganda asked the Sisters of Notre Dame to come and teach. Two sisters from Covington and two from California arrived in Buseesa in 1995 and established the St. Julie Mission.
  • Since then, St. Julie Mission has grown to include a nursery school, a primary boarding school, a secondary all-girls boarding school, a formation/vocation center, and a farm.
  • More than 600 students attend St. Julie Mission annually!
  • Sisters and volunteers from around the world have lived and taught in Buseesa.
  • Friends of the Covington Sisters of Notre Dame have contributed their prayers, resources, and time to help make St. Julie Mission what it is today...and where it will go in the future. We are so grateful!
  • St. Julie Mission is a part of the East Africa Delegation, along with SND missions in Kenya, Tanzania, and Mozambique.

Current areas of focus for our sisters in Uganda and the mission office in Covington:

  • Completing fundraising and construction for the new A-level high school in Buseesa.
  • Installing a new deep well+pump system to provide water to the mission and local community. This is an ongoing project with the Florence, Kentucky Rotary.
  • Providing university education to our Ugandan Sisters of Notre Dame.
  • Monitoring the fluctuating value of the Uganda Shilling. From term 2 to term 3, the cost of a carton of milk went from 35,000 Shillings to 70,000 Shillings.

God be with you. Much love and Christmas blessings to all! Keep up the remarkable work! "Oh, that You would bless us, indeed, and enlarge our territory, that Your hand would be with us and that You would keep us from evil." --The Prayer of Jabez
